A Mankato woman who has endured two heart transplants and a kidney transplant continues to recover at the Mayo Clinic after her body tried to reject the heart she received in 2013.

On the “Alyssa Sandeen is a Blessing” Facebook page, family members say she had an echocardiogram Monday and received good news — her heart function has improved from 26% to 46%.

She is expected to have another heart biopsy later this week and is currently taking one of the most powerful anti-rejection medications.

The post says Alyssa is still battling shortness of breath because her heart is enlarged, caused by the rejection, but doctors are hopeful it will go back down to its original size once the rejection is under control.
