Hamline University political analyst David Schultz says the race for governor is probably closer than the latest Minnesota Poll suggests because a higher percentage of respondents than usual were from the metro area.

DFL Congressman has served as the U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 1st congressional district since 2007. He’s running in the 2018 governor’s race.

But Schultz says, even so, Republican Jeff Johnson probably needs to close the gap with Democratic rival Tim Walz of Mankato in the next three to four weeks at most, “Otherwise the money he needs to run is gonna probably dry up very rapidly.”

GOP Gubernatorial front-runner Jeff Johnson is a commissioner in Hennepin County.

The poll shows Walz with a nine-point lead over Johnson at 45 to 36 percent, with about one-in-six voters still undecided.
