A 28-year-old man was taken into custody and is now charged in last month’s theft from a donation box at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato.
Mankato Department of Public Safety Commander Dan Schisel says Jacob Guyette is charged with burglary, theft, property damage, and possession of burglary tools after he was identified using surveillance video using a tool to break the lock on the box.
“A lot of times you’re looking for the admissions. We didn’t get that,” he explained, “But we had enough individuals come forward identifying who this individual was that the county attorney’s office was able to charge it out.”
Schisel is giving those tipsters credit for helping track Guyette down, and said, “Kudos to the community and citizens coming forward to identify the person that took money from this business.”
The most serious of the charges, third-degree burglary, can mean up to five years in prison if Guyette is convicted.
Church officials say there was eight dollars in the donation box.
