An arrest warrant has been issued for a woman accused of trying to get welfare benefits from two different states last summer.

LaJayma Rainey is charged with wrongfully obtaining assistance by making false statements, food stamp fraud, and financial fraud for illegally applying for an EBT card.

Her address is listed as Souix Falls, South Dakota on the criminal complaint but the document shows Rainey was receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance benefits in Nebraska and continued to do so after moving to Iowa and getting welfare money in that state – and then moved to Blue Earth County and applied for befits here as well.

A Blue Earth County Human Services Financial Worker said Rainey declared the Iowa benefits when she applied for benefits in Minnesota, so they were cancelled. But they say she said nothing about getting the financial help in Nebraska. The investigator said she received a spreadsheet from Nebraska officials that showed Rainey had begun using her Nebraska-issued EBT card in Blue Earth County last June, and continued to do so in July.

A notice to appear in court was mailed to Rainey in December but it was returned as undeliverable, so a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
