By |2019-01-25T09:52:49+00:00January 25th, 2019|

A coalition of Twin Cities scientists is urging Governor Tim Walz to stop Line 3, the Enbridge Pipeline that would transport crude oil from Canada through Minnesota for international export. "Governor Walz and Lt Gov Flanagan, Commissioner Kelly of the Department of Commerce, have all indicated that they would like to make decisions on LIne 3 that are based on data and science, we are here to stress that if human well being is our aim, then there is no field of scientific study or strong line of scientific evidence that can be used to support the construction of this pipeline," [...]

The cold weather not only increases the chance for humans to get frostbite, but for pets as well. Veterinarian Mary Ann Nelson of the North Mankato Animal Hospital says pets shouldn't be outside for more than 20 minutes. She also recommends having your pet wear a jacket and booties to help them if they have to go outside.

"I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause," he said, "However, we believe this action is prudent for the wellbeing of our students." Flu activity is considered widespread across Minnesota. Updated flu numbers [...]

A Teenager Caused a Car Crash, and It Saved Someone’s Life?

By |2019-01-25T08:03:15+00:00January 25th, 2019|

If you want a quick hit of adrenaline, jump in the passenger seat while a teenager is driving.  Your life flashes in front of your eyes every 30 seconds. But a high school senior in Clearwater, Florida named Olivia Jones caused a crash last month that may have actually SAVED someone's life. She was sitting at a red light when she noticed a woman slumped behind the wheel in the car next to her. At first she thought the woman was just texting, because she was looking straight down.  But then Olivia realized she was having a SEIZURE.  And the woman's car was [...]

A Kid with Down Syndrome Nailed a Half-Court Shot at the Buzzer

By |2019-01-25T08:02:22+00:00January 25th, 2019|

There's a high school junior near Denver named Andrew Regan who has Down syndrome.  (Pronounced REE-gan.)  But he's also an athlete. His high school has a "unified" basketball team, where differently abled kids play together in a less competitive environment.  Which is awesome. Anyway, a video of Andrew is going viral after he snagged a rebound in a game last Friday . . . and hit a buzzer beater from HALF COURT. His teammates and coaches went nuts.  It was only the third quarter, so it wasn't a game winner.  But it's the kind of thing most of us dream of doing.  And [...]

For the First Time Since 1901, Conversation Hearts Won’t Be on Sale This Valentine’s Day

By |2019-01-25T08:01:43+00:00January 25th, 2019|

Is it really Valentine's Day if you can't hand someone a small, chalky heart candy that says "BE MINE"? A little bit of our childhood just died . . . because for the first Valentine's Day since 1901, conversation hearts will NOT be on sale this year. They were made by Necco, which went out of business last July.  The Spangler Candy Company acquired the rights to make conversation hearts, but they weren't able to get production set up for this year. That means no conversation hearts in 2019.  On the bright side, Spangler says they WILL be selling them again [...]

What’s the Nicest Thing a Stranger Has Ever Done for You?

By |2019-01-25T08:00:33+00:00January 25th, 2019|

A thread on Reddit is going viral after someone asked people to name the nicest thing a complete stranger has ever done for them.  Do you know yours?  Here are a few highlights from Reddit . . .   1.  A guy was at a bar with his girlfriend when a random dude walked up and said they seemed like a sweet couple.  Then he handed them two free tickets . . . said he couldn't go at the last minute . . . and they were front-row seats to see PRINCE. 2.  Someone lost their keys in college, then they showed [...]
