With high water on the Cottonwood River suspending the search and recovery efforts for a missing Sleepy Eye man, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office is continuing search efforts by air.

Search by water south of Sleepy Eye for 73-year old Vincent Mathiowetz was halted on June 11 due to strong currents, which made boat navigation nearly impossible. The Cottonwood River crested on Sunday at 15.43-feet and has since dropped to 14.11-feet, still in the moderate flood stage.

Authorities say the Minnesota State Patrol – Flight Section will conduct searches by air during regular intervals until the Cottonwood River can be safely navigated by boat traffic.
