State and U-S-D-A officials are working to prevent the spread of the highly pathogenic avian influenza in Minnesota. State Veterinarian Doctor Beth Thompson says this virus is hitting small and larger poultry operations:
“Certainly when we see flocks of just a handful of backyard poultry. We’ve seen chicken operations and we’ve also had turkey here in Minnesota. So it’s not discriminating among the different species of birds and that’s really troubling.”
The latest cases are in a commercial flock in Morrison County and a backyard flock in Stearns County.
