The Blue Earth-Nicollet County Humane Society has put some restriction in place, caused by an outbreak of kennel cough in the Mankato area.

BENCHS officials say they are working to prevent its spread by limiting access to the shelter’s dogs and puppies.

For at least the next couple of weeks they say there will be no community dog walking, no dog or puppy adoptions, and no meet and greets.

Kennel cough is an upper respiratory infection that affects dogs, and they typically recover within a few weeks, but the American Kennel Club says the illness can be more severe in puppies younger than six months of age and dogs that have compromised immune systems.
