The Minnesota State University ice contest formerly known as the “Big Bobber” will move forward under the name the “Humminbird® Mad Bobber® Ice Contest presented by Otter®” in Madison Lake.

The contest will be hosted by the Madison Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, and Mayor Ken Reichel says it’s, “Designed to celebrate Madison Lakes’ longstanding tradition of ice fishing and our year-round commitment to being an outdoor friendly community.”

Contest officials say contestants will be able to participate in the event on the entire lake in wheel houses, portable houses or open-air fishing abiding by 2018 MN DNR fishing guidelines.

Only fish caught during the noon to 3:00 p.m. contest hours are available for entry.

Prizes will be awarded in five species specific categories (Walleye, Northern, Bass (LM, White), Panfish (Crappie, Sunfish, Perch) and an all-inclusive category that includes non-listed species indigenous to Madison Lake.

The entry fee for fishing is $20.00 for adults and $5.00 for age 15 and under, and officials say additional group packages are available.

Pre-registration is encouraged and will be available online until 10:00 p.m. on February 9th. Tickets will also be sold on site from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on the day of the event.
