U.S. Senator Tina Smith is co-sponsoring legislation that would open new markets for small producers and processors around the state:

“What it would do is to allow local meat and poultry products that have been processed at small producers, small processors to have their products be sold across state lines which isn’t possible right now.”

COVID-19 and the closure of large packing plants have shed a harsh light on the consolidated nature of our food system and the severe shortage of small and regional meat processors across the state.
