Blue Earth County is now accepting applications for the 2018 Citizens Academy, which is meant to give people a unique behind-the-scenes look at how government employees perform their jobs and how each department serves the community.
Classes are taught by county leaders from a variety of departments and will cover a range of areas, including probation, the Sheriff’s Office, County Attorney, human services, public works, library, taxpayer services, elections, administration, finance, and environmental services.
The academy includes hands-on learning experience through tours of many county buildings, including the Historic Courthouse, Justice Center (jail and courts), Library, Ponderosa Landfill, and more.
Citizens Academy is a free, seven-week program, and officials say classes are held Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. from March 20 through May 1. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants, age 18 and above.
To apply for the program, all candidates must submit an application by Friday, March 2
