A week from Saturday, Montgomery Brewing in Montgomery has planned an exclusive release of a Czech Pilsen Style beer called Stoleti Pivo, but there is more behind it than just a new craft brew.

Czech Country committee member Fred Simon said they approached Montgomery Brewing and asked if they would create a Czech beer as part of a celebration planned for late October to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia at the end of WW1 in 1918.

“They agreed to so that, and made a little sample batch,” Simon said, “And they asked then if it would be okay to actually introduce that beer during Kolacky Day weekend.”

The name of the beer translates to Century Beer, and it will be released July 28th at 4:00 p.m. at the brewery during Montgomery’s 84th annual Kolacky Days. Simon said the festival is, “One of the oldest Czech celebrations probably in the country and fur sure in Minnesota.”

Simon said the Consul General of the Czech Republic in Chicago Bořek Lizec is expected to travel to Minnesota and, “It sounds like he will be here both for the introduction of the beer and for our celebration in October.”

The Czech Country group represents the communities of Montgomery, Lonsdale, Veseli, and New Prague.

Simon added that the October event will include cemetery tours, a Czech Mass, Taste of Czech-Slovak, Battle-of-the Bands, and other activities.
