The debate about what to do about guns–if anything–continues in the wake of last week’s shooting in Florida.

DFL state Representative and gubernatorial candidate Erin Murphy is proposing a ban on sales of the A-R 15 rifle–which was used in the Florida shooting and others. She said, “There are Minnesotans and hunters who use weapons like this one and they’re using them responsibly, but I think it is time for us to also recognize that this is a weapon that is being used intentionally for shooting like we’re seeing across the country.”

But Gun Rights Minnesota’s Chris Dorr said the non-military grade weapon is not the problem. He added that murder is illegal and, “By trying to remove a tool from the equation–a tool that thousands upon thousands of law-abiding gun owners use themselves to defend themselves, it’s not going to save a single life.”
