DFL State Senators today called on their counterparts across the aisle to work quickly to enact reforms addressing racial inequality and policing standards in a special session. Last week Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka said people should not expect police reforms “to be done in the next week”…

“We fully vet issues to make sure we get it right because it’s not just for now. This is for a generation to come.”

Today, Senate Minority Leader Susan Kent admitted it’s not possible to “fix everything in one day, week or month”…

“But Minnesota and America is watching to see what our first step will be, we have the opportunity to set the bar high and lead by example and not tiptoe around the issue of racial injustice.”

Democrats are calling for money to rebuild areas hard hit by recent unrest, as well as modifying police use of force standards.
