What began as a domestic violence incident in Mankato turned into the arrest of a man on several weapons charges.

Mankato Police Commander Dan Schisel said 24-year-old Kane Van Raalte had left the scene of the assault before officers arrived but people working in the area saw him run past and into the Pizza Hut restaurant on Riverfront Drive and he was arrested there.

“It was determined that this individual left some stuff in this business. It was recovered. It happened to be a handgun,” Schisel explained.

The handgun was not used in the earlier assault, but Schisel says the weapon was stolen and Van Raalte is facing several charges. “They include a felon in possession of a firearm, domestic assault, carrying without a permit, and possession of stolen property.”

The gun was stolen from its owner in Michigan.
