At only 17 years old, Olivia Rodrigo is one of the youngest artists to reach No. 1 on Billboard charts. Her debut single “Drivers License,” went straight to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard Global 200, and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts.
Rodrigo tweeted “Number one on the Billboard charts. truly cannot believe this is real life. thank u thank u thank u,” while sharing Billboard’s post. She also posted on her Instagram story “oh my god this is crazy,” while sharing the Hot 100 chart.
“Drivers License” reached the highest weekly global streaming total for a song by a woman since Mariah Carey. “Drivers License” had a total of 130,060,000 streams worldwide. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey reached 130,042,000 streams worldwide on Jan. 2nd.
While being interviewed by Billboard on Jan. 19th, Rodrigo chuckled and said “I’ve gotten texts from people who are going on walks, and they’ll be walking past a house that is just blasting ‘Drivers License.'” She also said, “Or they’ll be driving and pull up next to a car at a stop light, and the other car will be playing ‘Drivers License.’ You can see all the numbers and the No. 1 charts, but to see people in their day-to-day lives listening to this song, having it resonate with them? That’s been insane.”
