The Eagle Lake Police Department is warning people not to be fooled by a scam phone call purporting to be from the Internal Revenue Service.

A resident received a call that displayed the Eagle Lake Police Department’s non-emergency phone number, and the caller said they were with the IRS. They claimed that a warrant had been issued for the victim’s arrest and money needed to be paid promptly.

The PD says this is a scam and calls like this should be reported to the local police department, and they warn people not to give out any personal information.

They also say the IRS does not conduct business this way.
