The economic downturn related to the COVID-19 pandemic will certainly have an effect on city budgets. North Mankato Mayor Mark Dehen says it will hit three funds in particular.

Our food and beverage tax has been decimated at this time,” said Dehen. “Our hotel/motel tax has currently been curtailed. Our local option sales tax is certainly down but hopefully, the city’s share of the internet sales tax we receive will help offset that at least a bit.”

Dehen says the downturn will likely have a larger effect on next year’s budget.
