FarmFest near Redwood Falls is underway through Thursday with plenty of events focused around Minnesota’s political landscape, along with discussions on water quality, trade and biodiesel.

Farm Management Analyst Kent Thiesse says the political candidate forums will feature numerous topics for those running in the November election.

“Ag trade and the farm bill will be the highlight topics of discussion. Then obviously things like rural healthcare, workforce immigration issues and all of those kind of issues will be part of it too. But those other two issues right now are in the forefront. Especially the congressional ones, when we get to the governor one, obviously trade is, the farm economy and rural communities and certainly healthcare.”

The forums include candidates for U.S. Senate, Congress and Minnesota Governor.

All five candidates for Governor will be present, which includes Republican’s Jeff Johnson and Tim Pawlenty, along with Democrat’s Erin Murphy, Lori Swanson and Tim Walz. The Governors debate will be held on Wednesday morning from 10:30 until 11:50 a.m.

“For a lot of the forums, it’s the first time all the candidates have been together, so people pay attention. They kinda get to hear where these candidates stand on various issues.”

Pete Steiner will be providing FarmFest updates and interviews both Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 to noon on KTOE.
