The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued flood warnings for several rivers in Minnesota — among them, the Minnesota River at Mankato affecting Blue Earth and Nicollet Counties.

Forecasters say the warning goes into affect at 1:00 Wednesday afternoon, and minor flooding is forecast. Monday morning the river was at 17.3 feet, and flood stage is 22 feet. Water is expected to rise above that Wednesday and continue to rise Thursday, but then dip back below flood stage by Friday morning. Patrols will be checking the dikes along the Minnesota River in Mankato and North Mankato.

Also under flood warnings for that same period of time are the Minnesota River near Jordan, affecting Carver and Scott Counties; the Minnesota River at Savage affecting Dakota, Hennepin and Scott Counties; and the South Fork of the Crow River below Mayer, affecting Carver County

The forecast is based on ongoing snowmelt, and the NWS will monitor this developing situation and issue follow-up statements as conditions or forecasts change.
