(Miami, FL) — A Florida man is pleading guilty in federal court to threatening to kill the lawyer who defended the former Minneapolis police officer who killed George Floyd. William Hartnett of Coral Gables, Florida made threats in a phone call last April when former officer Derek Chauvin was on trial for Floyd’s murder. Chauvin was convicted of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death on Memorial Day, 2020. A viral video showed Chauvin kneeling on the unarmed Black man’s neck for more than nine minutes.
