Minnesota did not see a dramatic increase in food shelf use last year(2021). Colleen Moriarty executive director of Hunger Solutions Minnesota credits federal and state food programs implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic but cautions:
“As these programs click off. I expect that….we’re already seeing things begin to climb again as we see these programs not being available.”
Moriarty says another concern is the rising number of seniors coming to the food shelf. Minnesotans made 3.6 million visits to food shelves in 2021, hitting pre-pandemic levels.
