The crisis surrounding COVID-19 has created a higher demand for food shelves and meal providers in the state. Loaves and Fishes Minnesota Executive Director Cathey Maes says they are on pace to serve four million meals to those in need by the end of the year, a huge increase from when she started in 2013.

“We were surviving around 350-thousand meals a year. Last year, we served right around 1.3, so we have tripled from 2019.”

Maes says they are seeing a lot of new people in need of meals statewide, especially families with children who are missing out on meals they normally would get during school hours.
