A former U.S. Postal Service contractor is facing a dozen counts of mail theft, and is accused of stealing mail he was supposed to deliver to customers in the Mankato area in 2016 and 2017.

Special Agent Carlos Landaeta of the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General says 61-year-old David Maine swiped nearly $700 worth of Menards rebate cards from the mail stream, twelve in total, and redeemed them.

The criminal complaint shows that Maine denied stealing the cards, but could not explain why the rebate cards of customers in the Mankato area were associated with rebate checks that were issued to him.

Video surveillance footage of the redemptions of the rebate checks was provided to the Office of Inspector General, and Maine identified himself as the man in the pictures.
