North Mankato, Minn. Shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday, June 1st, 2020 officers from the North Mankato Police Department along with Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service responded to a report of a child being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Colony Court Apartments.
A 9–year–old female suffered a fractured leg and was transported to MCHS via ambulance.
Officers interviewed a witness who stated that the juvenile had recently been sitting on the ground in the parking lot when the witness heard the accident and then a scream.
The driver, a 57–year-old North Mankato man, is cooperating with law enforcement. Investigators believe that the juvenile ran out in front of the vehicle as it was rounding the corner of the parking lot and was struck. Driver impairment is not suspected. Charges are not being sought.
“These things can happen in the blink of an eye”, says Chief of Police Ross Gullickson, “We would remind parents to educate their children on watching for vehicles in and around high traffic areas.”
