Governor Tim Walz’s request for an income tax increase on the wealthiest Minnesotans got a firm thumbs-down Thursday from the Republican-controlled Minnesota Senate. Saint Paul Democrat Erin Murphy argued the revenue is necessary…

…”to invest in our kids, in their learning;   to invest in housing; to invest in child care.”

Senate G-O-P Majority Leader Paul Gazelka responded:

“We have a 1.6-billion-dollar surplus and it’s just been announced that we’re going to get 4.7 billion dollars from the federal government, and this amendment wants to raise taxes.”
