Great River Greening is hosting a restoration event on Saturday, where 30 volunteers will stake willow trees along the creek in Seven Mile Creek County Park in order to improve the water quality of the Minnesota River.
The creek in Nicollet County flows through the park to the Minnesota River, and it’s one of very few designated trout streams in south-central Minnesota. While Seven Mile Creek is often clear, Great River Greening officials say the water registers high levels of nitrate-nitrogen and phosphorus during periods of intense rain and snowmelt.
The trees are intended to help stop nutrient run-off from agriculture and reduce soil movement into the Minnesota River.
The planting takes place from 9:00 – 1:00 Saturday at Hwy 169, South of St Peter.
