The U.S. Department of Education has named Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter a 2018 Green Ribbon School.

Across the country, 46 schools, six districts, and six postsecondary institutions were honored for innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.

As part of the nomination process, Gustavus Officials pointed out the emphasis on energy and water conservation efforts at the College with the waste management and recycling program. In 2013, the college started on-site composting for food waste from dining services and in 2017, it implemented single-sort recycling.
