The Mankato Department of Public Safety was sent to check a weapons complaint Sunday evening.

Commander Dan Schisel said a homeowner on Heather Lane got in touch with police after, “They thought they heard what appeared to be fireworks or something coming from a weapon.”

Schisel said evidence recovered from the scene showed that a gun had been fired and, “There was some damage to a light and there was evidence that a handgun had been fired. Not sure from where, whether it was accidentally or where this came from but we did recover what appears to be a round from a handgun.”

He believes it may have been an accidental discharge of the weapon and said, “If they have a permit to carry or if they have a legitimate reason to have a handgun and it accidentally goes off they should be calling in and reporting that.”
