U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has a 24-hour toll-free hotline available for family members of those caught up in the Wednesday raid at Christensen Farms in Sleepy Eye. The hotline operates in English and Spanish; the phone number is 1-888-351-4024.

About a dozen people were arrested in Minnesota in a wider, 15-month investigation into a Nebraska man accused of exploiting illegal immigrants.

ICE officials say 133 illegal workers were administratively arrested at locations throughout Nebraska, in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; Appleton, Minnesota; and Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations. They add that some will be issued notices to appear before a federal immigration judge and released from custody; the rest will remain in ICE custody pending immigration court proceedings.

Agents say there is evidence that the companies involved knowingly hired illegal aliens at their facilities, and that many of them are using fraudulent identification belonging to U.S. citizens.

Christensen Farms spokeswoman Amber Portner says the organization is “surprised and disappointed to learn” that one of the company’s third-party vendors is not in compliance with immigration policies.
