Since the release of her smash hit “New Rules,” Dua Lipa has made sure that she wouldn’t become a one-hit-wonder. The song propelled her into stardom but also left many with high expectations for her sophomore album. For many artists, the fear of what’s called a sophomore slump can be overwhelming and set them up for doom. On top of that, Dua was the recipient of the 2019 Best New Artist Grammy Award which, while an amazing honor, is considered by some to be a curse. Despite all of the pressure that these achievements may have added to the “Physical” singer, Dua has come back with an incredible sophomore album and solidified herself as a pop star. The success of Dua’s Future Nostalgia album goes far beyond my liking of it. The album itself is up for both the coveted Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy Awards. On top of that, the British singing sensation is up for four more nominations, getting her to a total of six nominations and tying her with pop icon Taylor Swift.
In addition to her many award nominations, Dua has provided fans with incredible performances during this era. One of her most recent performances took place during the 2020 American Music Awards where she performed her song “Levitating.” In the performance, Dua can be seen dancing while she belts out her groovy tune. She ends the performance fittingly by floating above the stage while still managing to hit all of her notes. While the performers for the 2021 Grammy’s have yet to be announced, due to her many nominations it would not be surprising if we got another incredible show from the star. Even if we aren’t so lucky, Dua will be performing on SNL on December 19th. Until then, you can find me streaming Future Nostalgia and re-watching her amazing AMA performance.
