Indigenous Peoples’ Day marks the third annual recognition since the Mankato City Council adopted a resolution recognizing the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day. 

When this resolution was adopted in 2018, it served as a next step on the path of reconciliation between the Indigenous Dakota Nation and the people of Mankato.

Reconciliation was initiated by the friendship and actions of Bud Lawrence and Amos Owen along with Jim Buckley, Sr., and other steps have followed
