U-S Senator Tina Smith today introduces a bill to make insulin more accessible and affordable. The bill was inspired partly by the story of Minnesotan, Alec Smith, who died after rationing insulin when it became unaffordable. Alec’s mom Nicole says…

“It’s amazing how many people didn’t realize that insulin is so extremely expensive, you know we kind of isolate ourselves in the fact that if it doesn’t affect us personally, we don’t really pay attention to what’s happening in other households.”

The bill would help connect people with state, federal or private insurance options. And it would charge the three insulin manufacturers in the U-S a fee and recurring tax for price bumps.
