An Iowa man is facing three counts of stalking and one of making threats of violence after a domestic incident at a home in Eagle Lake on Tuesday.
Police say the woman told police that 38-year-old Donald Cohen of Sioux City had taken her keys, threatened to kill her, and then left in another vehicle.
The victim told investigators that Cohen, her husband, had been under the influence of methamphetamine and had not slept in a few days. She showed the officer a text message from Cohen that read, “You’re dead.”
A Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Deputy located Cohen’s vehicle and arrested him.
At the justice center, the criminal complaint shows the officer described Cohen as very paranoid and that he was talking about people being in his house, hiding in the attic, stealing his things, and that they, “Keep messing with him.”
He admitted to sending the threatening text but said he meant it in a different way than the victim perceived.
Court records show Cohen is on probation in Nicollet County for a previous domestic assault conviction involving his wife and was also previously convicted of assault in South Dakota in 2017.
