Jury selection in the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin continues today

So far, 13 jurors have been seated–five men and eight women–six are people of color, and seven are white.

The judge on Friday announced that he was denying a defense motion to move or delay the trial as a result of pre-trial publicity of the city of Minneapolis’ $27 million settlement with the family of George Floyd.

The jury ultimately will consist of 12 jurors and two alternates, and the judge wants an additional person on the panel as another alternative in case a juror is removed for some reason. The judge says there will be five people scheduled for questioning this morning and three for the afternoon.
