It was a record setting year in 2017 for the Kiwanis Holiday Lights at Sibley Park.

Officials announced on Tuesday that 62-thousand dollars will be donated to the 78 non-profit organizations that assisted with the event. In 2016, 60-thousand dollars was donated back to volunteer groups.

Over 165-thousand people attended the free event in 2017 with 12.87 tons of food being collected for 16 area food shelves.

The 38-night event had 2-thousand 312 volunteers that put in 12-thousand 729 hours. Volunteers helped install over 1.5 million energy-efficient LED lights throughout Sibley Park. Organizers say the cost to keep the lights on was less than 50-dollars a night.

The opening parade and lighting ceremony for the 2018 Kiwanis Holiday Lights season will be November 23.
