With a high-profile case such as the death of George Floyd, how do you find an impartial jury? Fifth district public defender Scott Cutcher says it will be a challenge.

“I’d be surprised if it is in Hennepin County,” said Floyd. “We’ll have to scour the state and find someplace where individuals can look at things objectively. It will be very difficult.”

Cutcher says putting law enforcement officers on trial is always a challenge.

“These are uphill battles for the prosecution to win, even with video evidence,” said Floyd. “We’ve seen it already such as the acquittal of the officer in Falcon Heights.”

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was charged with second-degree murder, without intent, while committing a felony in the case Wednesday. Authorities also charged ex-officers Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J Alexander Kueng with aiding and abetting to second-degree murder.
