More than 40 local students will head to the Minnesota State Capitol Thursday to urge state lawmakers to support Tobacco 21.

It’s Minnesotans for a Smoke-Free Generation coalition Day at the Capitol, and during their time in St. Paul, the youth advocates will attend a volunteer training on how to advocate to legislators, and then attend afternoon meetings with lawmakers.

Legislation that would raise the tobacco purchasing age to 21 was introduced earlier this month. The American Lung Association in Minnesota’s Erin Simmons says it is an important law for the community and state, but especially for Minnesota youth, and the students are taking action to change the future of the health of our state.
