A 34-year-old Mankato man is facing a preliminary charge of malicious punishment of a child and two domestic assault counts after his 13-year-old son told investigators that his father hit him in the back before school on February 1st.

The teen told police that Robert Gulick was upset that his window blinds were open and pulled the clothing from the closet – and when the boy began picking up the clothes he says Gulick elbowed him in the back.

Gulick admitted that he was upset about the open blinds and that the teen’s bedroom was messy, but did not deny or confirm how the victim’s back injury occurred.
