A 50-year-old Mankato man is facing two assault charges and one count of disorderly conduct, after a March incident at the Minnesota State University – Mankato fieldhouse.
Mankato Police say that, as part of their work duties, George Schmelling and the victim share the use of a janitor’s closet, and Schmelling became angry when the victim repeatedly shut the door to the closet because she was using a noisy piece of equipment and didn’t want to disturb the ROTC Group using the fieldhouse.
The criminal complaint shows that Schmelling was swearing at her, and grabbed her by the arm and refused to let go. When the woman was able to pull away from his grip, she contacted her supervisor and MSU security.
Schmelling admitted in a police interview to getting angry because the woman kept closing the closet door.
