A Mankato man is now charged with giving police a false name and possession of synthetic marijuana and drug pipe, after an investigation that began back in February.
Police were initially called after a stranger was found passed out in a chair on the front porch of a Van Brunt Street home. The man named on a ticket for drug possession didn’t show up in court so later he was arrested on a warrant and held in jail.
However, the man that was arrested told police that he knew nothing about the incident and months later police learned that it was his brother that passed out on the porch last winter.
Police compared pictures of the jailed man and his brother, 22-year-old Alex Schneider, and determined that the wrong man had been charged.
