A Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering after he was assaulted by a suspect early Wednesday morning.
The deputy was responding to several calls concerning the behavior of 37-year-old Alexander Lyons of Mankato. Dispatch received one call that Lyons tried to get into a stranger’s car on Highway 83. Another reported that he was throwing things at a passing car. His car was found crashed and abandoned on Lotus Circle and he was soon found nearby on Highway 83 by 597th Avenue.
While being handcuffed, the criminal complaint states that Lyons punched the deputy in the face and also put his hands into his waistband and then pulled them out quick and pointed his hands like guns at the officers. He was tasered and taken to jail.
Documents show that Lyons admitted that he had ‘ate’ some meth the day before and that he has been a ‘methamphibian’ addict for 20 years.
The deputy suffered injuries to his eye, eyebrow, cheek, and jaw and says his glasses were broken in the incident.
Lyon is facing several felony assault charges – including assaulting an officer – running from police, driving under the influence, property damage, and others.
Court records show Lyons was on probation after he was convicted of assault and stalking last year and has several other previous convictions.
