A 22-year-old Mankato mother is charged with child neglect, possession of synthetic marijuana, and possessing of a smoking pipe, after an employee of a Mankato apartment complex called police to report that a baby was crying loudly inside of an apartment for a long period of time last Thursday.
The baby was still crying when an officer with the Mankato Department of Public Safety arrived, and when he entered the home the officer said the ten month old baby was standing on the living room couch crying, and Nina McKnight was passed out on a mattress in a bedroom. Police say synthetic marijuana and a pipe were laying out in plain sight.
The baby was turned over to the father. A records check shows that McKnight was previously conducted of child endangerment which involved a similar incident and McKnight’s mother has custody of her other children.
