Mankato Police supported Special Olympics Minnesota in a fundraiser last week, spending five hours atop the roof at Dunkin’ Donuts on Madison Avenue.

Nine Dunkin’ Donuts locations in Minnesota participated in the effort this year. Mankato Police Commander Dan Schisel said, “This is our second annual, and this year we raised about $900 while officers were on the rooftop there, from 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.”

Last year’s effort brought in about $1,600.

Schisel said the money supports not just the state games, but many other programs that support the athletes and, “These athletes really build a lot of confidence and support from teammates and participating, so it’s just a great way to give back to them.”

St. Peter Police also participated in the event this year.
