Mankato-Public Safety responded to a motor vehicle theft and assault at 1:03 p.m., today (March 4). The owner left the vehicle on and went into a business at 340 Stadium Road. While inside, he noticed the vehicle was being driven away and then chased after it. The vehicle stopped briefly and a second male entered it. During this time, the owner was close enough to approach the vehicle. One of the suspects pointed a weapon at the owner, who stopped for his safety, and the vehicle was driven away.
A short time later Mankato Public Safety officers spotted the stolen vehicle heading north on Highway 22 and onto Highway 14 and pursued it. The pursuit ended in a residential area in Janesville and the suspects fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, all three male suspects were taken into custody without incident. With the help of Nicollet County’s K-9 unit, a weapon was recovered in the area where the pursuit ended. No injuries have been reported.
Mankato Public Safety was assisted by the Blue Earth, Nicollet and Waseca county sheriffs’ offices, the Minnesota State Patrol, and Eagle Lake and Janesville police departments.
The MSU campus was issued an alert during this time to stay inside.
This is an ongoing investigation. No other information will be released at this time.
