Mankato was officially recognized as Tree City USA for the 23rd year. Tree City USA recognizes cities making smart investments in urban forests. During 2019 in Mankato:
  • planted more than 675 trees in city boulevards, parks and open spaces.
  • trimmed more than 4,000 trees in city boulevards, parks and open spaces. A zone trimming program ensures all boulevard trees are trimmed on a routine cycle.
Trees cool, fight pollution, conserve energy and benefit wildlife. Trees also enhance property values and make neighborhoods more livable.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Services and the National Associate of State Foresters.
