A 22-year-old Mankato woman has been charged with assistance fraud after Blue Earth County investigators say she lied about having a job.

Officials say Tebarak Al Shamsy applied for medical assistance in June and claimed on the form that she had no income. However, when a subpoena was sent to Alliance Health Care they learned that Al Shamsy had been employed there since January.

Al Shamsy was not eligible for Alliance health insurance, and had no medical coverage, but would have been eligible in a couple of months.

The criminal complaint shows that Al Shamsy had been disqualified for medical aid for one year after a previous fraud finding in 2017 and made the second application soon after that period ended.

Investigators say Al Shamsy committed an intentional program violation and fraudulently obtained public assistance benefits from Blue Earth County Human Services in the amount of $1,650.00.
