Mankato’s Spring Clean-up begins Saturday, and it’s at a new location in 2018.

Mankato Public Works Superintendent Joe Grabianowski said it will be held at the public works facility on South Victory Drive. “We will be entering in off of Victory Drive and exiting onto Hoffman Road, so there shouldn’t be any traffic congestion,” he explained. “We’re going to line the cars up in rows on our front lot. Our goal is to not have any cars out on Victory Drive.”

Hours are 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Grabianowski said they’ll accept most unwanted household items, including electronics. “Items not accepted are concrete, asphalt, tires, appliances, recyclable material, and hazardous waste,” he added.

Mankato Department of Public Safety Commander Dan Schisel said officers will be stationed at the public works building to again take in unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medications – and even illegal drubs – no questions asked. He said, “You just bring it in a bag, we don’t look in the bag, we don’t look at what you’re dropping off.”

Last year, Grabianowski said they collected nearly 460 tons of household waste, more than 100 tons of TV’s, and 59 tons of scrap. Spring Cleanup dropoff takes place every Saturday in May.
