There were plenty of Minnesotans on the water this past weekend for the annual fishing opener. Minnesota DNR Fisheries manager Brad Parsons says the state has seen a 40 percent increase in fishing licenses purchased.
“These are the highest licensed sales we’ve seen in over 20 years,” said Parsons. “Our special five-dollar licenses for 16 and 17-year-olds have doubled from last year.”
Parsons says the better weather this spring also helped. He feels the stay at home order also helped because fishing provides a safe activity for many who’ve been stuck inside for over a month.
