The Minnesota Department of Health issued an alert Friday morning regarding an illness affecting children. State epidemiologist Ruth Lynfield says the symptoms of the syndrome include fever, inflammation, and gastrointestinal issues.

“We don’t know 100 percent how, and if, and whether, this is connected to COVID-19,” said Lynfield. “We think it probably is.”

Lynfield says health officials haven’t drawn any major conclusions yet

“We don’t think it’s common,” said Lynfield. “Children have been treated with a number of therapies. There have been three deaths, but that has been unusual. Most of the children have gotten better.”

The syndrome has reportedly infected one hundred children in New York.
